Switching on the device

To switch on the device press and hold simultaneously “UP” button and “ENTER” button. After the buttons are pressed, the device will start the countdown from 1 to 8 sec. with visual pix (the indication is meant to secure the user against accidentally switching on and off the device). After “8” digit appears on the screen and an audible signal rings, release the buttons. You will see the company logo, a firmware version and the name of the device, then you will see the main display. The device is on.

Switching off the device

To switch off the device press and hold simultaneously “UP” button and “ENTER” button. After the buttons are pressed, the device will start the countdown from 8 to 1 sec. with visual pix (the indication is meant to secure the user against accidentally switching on and off the device). After “1” digit appears on the screen and an audible signal rings, release the buttons. Then within 2 seconds you will see “see you” message on the display. The device is off.

General operation and setting

To operate the device you need to press the following buttons: “UP”, “DOWN” and “ENTER”. To select the necessary option, press “UP” and “DOWN” buttons. Press “ENTER” to change it. After you press it, you will see more options, select the necessary option and press “ENTER”. After that you will see a filled circle next to a selected point. Circles next to unselected options on the menu will remain empty.

On the screen of an audible altimeter you will see:
selected altitudes, a clock, a measuring system icon, a battery charge indicator.

VEGA – On the main screen of VEGA altimeter “0” mark is displayed. (During the ascent and descent during the jump the numbers change, showing the current altitude).

– Jump log.

Signals setting

SKYLIFE ALT COM devices with a feature of altitude audible sounder (audible altimeter) have 6 adjustable audible signals, 3 signals used in free fall and 3 signals used by a parachutist during the descent under the canopy. 1, 2 and 3 options on the menu are altitudes which can be set for free fall, whereas 4, 5 and 6 options are the altitudes which can be set for a descent under the canopy. To set the necessary mode, select an option with “UP” and “DOWN” buttons, then press “ENTER”. Select the necessary altitude and press “ENTER”.

Options

– System of measurement. Use this setting to select the system of measurement (metric or imperial) suitable for a user.

– Software language. This feature allows a user to select a suitable interface language: English or Russian.

– A current jump. This is an adjustable option which shows a total of the jumps with the device, this parameter is also recorded in the jump log.

– A total of the jumps. This option shows a total of the jumps with the device. It’s automatic, cannot be set manually.

– Signals testing. This option allows a user to test audible signals of the device. The device will play all the 6 signals one by one at short intervals.

ATTENTION! Don’t hold the device close to your ear while testing the signals on the ground, it may cause pain or impair your hearing.

– Date and time. Use this setting to select a suitable for a user date and time. These parameters are also recorded in the jump log.

The jump log

Before entering the jump log a user enters the jump counter log. To select the necessary jump press “UP” or “DOWN” buttons. Then press “ENTER” to enter the jump log.

The jump log includes the following options:

Separation from an aircraft altitude

Free fall speed

Parachute opening altitude

Free fall time

Descent speed under the canopy

Sleep mode

To decrease electrical consumption all the SKYLIFE ALT COM devices feature a sleep mode. This mode aids in significantly increasing operation time till the next recharge. A sleep mode turns on automatically if none of the buttons have been activated for 15 seconds. To deactivate a sleep mode and activate the device press and hold “DOWN” and “ENTER” buttons for 5 seconds.

When a sleep mode is on, there is a blinking image of a tree on the horizon, which means that the parachutist is on the ground. While the parachutist is ascending in an aircraft, there is a blinking image of a plane on the screen. During a jump there is a blinking image of a parachutist on the screen. From the moment the parachute opens till the parachutist lands there is a blinking image of a parachute on the screen.

When a sleep mode is on, there is a blinking image of a tree on the horizon, which means that the parachutist is on the ground. While the parachutist is jumping, the device constantly displays a current altitude on the screen with respect to a point of takeoff where the parachutist is.

Battery recharging

Battery charge status is shown in the right bottom corner of the screen. When the battery is flat, in a sleep mode there will appear “CHARGE THE BATTERY” blinking text. To charge the battery, connect the device to a power unit (a power unit is provided with the device), or to a computer. While charging, the there will appear a blinking image of a battery. When the battery is fully charged, there will appear “BATTERY CHARGED” blinking text.
